Unitary Consultation

Consultation on the future of local government in Somerset

Residents and businesses in Somerset are currently served by a two-tier system of local government. Somerset County Council is responsible for services such as adult and children’s social care, maintaining roads and libraries, and the District Councils – Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton and South Somerset - are responsible for services such as rubbish collection, housing and planning and environmental health.

Accessibility Audits

We are looking to carry out accessibility audits.

An accessibility audit is the assessment of a building or service to see how accessible it is to disabled people. This may be a visit to a building, review of a website or testing of a service, for example, a telephone helpline.

We have launched a new survey as a way of gaining a better understanding of what would be important to you. This will help us to identify potential organisations to approach and offer our audit services too.

Changing Places

People with learning disabilities and those with physical disabilities often need extra equipment and space to allow them to use the toilets safely and comfortably. These needs are met by Changing Places toilets.

The Government is looking to release money to local authorities so that they can provide more Changing Places toilets throughout the country. You can help us to identify where these should be provided in Somerset.

Community Safety

Sedgemoor District Council is committed to making Sedgemoor a safe place in which to live, work and visit. In order to understand the issues that matter most to you, we want to hear your views on crime and anti-social behaviour, so that we can work together with local partners to address these problems. We will continue to gather the information every two years to help us to understand our community’s perceptions of crime and anti-social behaviour. Please spare a few moments to complete the survey by 14th June 2021.
